India have retained the number one position in the latest ICC Men’s ODI team rankings annual update. Despite dropping by a solitary rating point, India continue to lead the standings with 118 points, maintaining a five-point advantage over second-placed New Zealand. Australia are ranked third with 109 points. The latest update shows performances over the past three years, with complete weightage applied to matches played since May 2025, while results from the preceding two years now carry half the value.

New Zealand have climbed to 113 points and continue to push India closely in the rankings race. The Black Caps’ consistent performances in bilateral series and ICC tournaments have helped them strengthen second position. One of the most notable changes in the rankings comes from South Africa’s impressive rise into the top four. The Proteas now sit on 102 points, overtaking Pakistan, who have slipped to fifth with 98 points.

The rest of the rankings in the top 10 remained unchanged as Sri Lanka (96), Afghanistan (93) and England (89), Bangladesh (84) and the West Indies (74) cap off the top 10. Meanwhile, according to the qualification scenario, the top eight teams in the ICC rankings as of March 31, 2027, will earn automatic spots in the World Cup.

Hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe have already secured qualification regardless of their ranking positions. This makes the race for the top eight even more intense because If South Africa remain inside the top eight rankings by the qualification deadline, the ninth-ranked side would also gain direct entry into the tournament.
