India have revealed their squads for the upcoming home series against Afghanistan, which will have a one-off Test match followed by a three-match ODI series. The squads see several senior stars returning and a few fresh faces earning maiden call-ups. Shubman Gill will continue as captain in both formats. Senior stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have both been included in the ODI squad.

For the one-off Test, experienced wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul has been named vice-captain. The ODI squad welcomes the return of Shreyas Iyer, who has been appointed deputy to Gill. Iyer’s comeback will be a major boost for India’s middle order. Meanwhile, the most eye-catching development is the absence of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.

The management has opted to continue managing his workload carefully after an intense period of action over the past few months. Amid this, India have handed maiden ODI call-ups to young players Harsh Dubey, Gurnoor Brar and Prince Yadav. Notably, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya's participation remains dependent on fitness clearance from the BCCI medical team.

India Test Squad: Shubman Gill (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul (vc), Sai Sudharsan, Rishabh Pant, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Manav Suthar, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey

India ODI Squad: Shubman Gill (c), Rohit Sharma*, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya*, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Prince Yadav, Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey.
