England have suffered a massive setback ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup with captain Nat Sciver-Brunt being ruled out of the T20I series against New Zealand and India due to a calf injury. Sciver-Brunt, who is central to England’s leadership and batting line-up, continues her recovery from what the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has described as a “minor left calf tear".

She picked up the injury while playing for The Blaze last month, forcing her to miss the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. Recent scans, however, have revealed that she will require an extended period of rehabilitation. As a result, she will not feature in any of the six T20Is that will be crucial in England’s preparations for the T20 World Cup later this year to be played in England.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge will also be unavailable for the New Zealand T20Is, as she awaits the birth of her first child. To bolster the squad, England have drafted in Maia Bouchier and Charis Pavely as cover. In Sciver-Brunt’s absence, spin bowler Charlie Dean will captain the side.
