Hashmatullah Shahidi will captain Afghanistan in both the upcoming ODI and one-off Test series against India, as the Afghan board unveiled squads for the highly anticipated tour. The red-ball battle will be Afghanistan’s first Test against India since their historic debut match in 2018. The star leg-spinner Rashid Khan and opening batter Ibrahim Zadran have not been included in the squad.

Young players Nangyal Kharoti, Bilal Sami, and Rahmanullah Zadran have all earned their maiden call-ups to the national Test side after impressive domestic and franchise performances. Meanwhile, spinner Qais Ahmad has made a return to the Test squad.

The selectors have also shown faith in Sediqullah Atal and Azmatullah Omarzai, both of whom have limited red-ball experience, having played only one Test each so far — against Zimbabwe in 2024. The One-off Test will be played from 6 to 10 June in New Chandigarh
