RCB's Tim David suspended for opening match of IPL 2027

Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David has been suspended for the opening match of the 2027 Indian Premier League season after being found guilty of breaching the tournament's Code of Conduct during the IPL 2026 Final. The Australian power-hitter was fined following an incident that took place during the final against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. David found himself in trouble after he hurled an ice bag toward umpire Nitin Menon during the 10th over of the first innings.
According to the IPL David was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Team Official, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a Match.”
The incident earned him a fine of 50 percent of his match fee and two demerit points to his record. As a result, David will be unavailable for the first match of IPL 2027, regardless of whether he remains with Royal Challengers Bengaluru or joins another franchise ahead of the next season.
