Lanka Premier League introduces Impact Subs for 2026 season

The Lanka Premier League has confirmed the introduction of the Impact Substitute rule for the 2026 edition of the tournament. According to reports, franchises will be allowed to name designated Impact Substitutes before the start of a match and activate them during key phases of the game depending on the match situation.
It will allow the teams to strengthen either their batting or bowling resources based on match situations. In addition to the Impact Substitute, the league has also introduced a regulation requiring every franchise to include at least one Under-23 player in their playing XI. The move is aimed at accelerating the development of young Sri Lankan cricketers.
Meanwhile, the 2026 Lanka Premier League is scheduled to begin on July 17, featuring five franchises. The tournament will also feature some notable names such as Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali and India's Vijay Shankar.
