"He was set to debut from the moment...": Indian batting coach on Sooryavanshi's debut

Indian batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his India debut during the second T20I against England, becoming the youngest player to represent the country in international cricket. The young star created history by making his debut at the age of 15 years and 99 days, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
Now, speaking on Sooryavanshi's debut, India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has said that the team management had already envisioned Sooryavanshi making his first international debut from the moment he was included in India's squad.
"He was set to debut from the moment he joined the team. It’s not like he was ready in the last match. For us, it was all about his game, his instincts, and the way he plays. The way he has played to reach here, he should continue playing that way," Sitanshu Kotak said at the press conference.
"I don’t think there were any precise instructions given to him," Kotak said.
This tour has been incredibly challenging for India, as the side has been unable to win a single match in the last four outings under the leadership of new captain Shreyas Iyer. Firstly, they suffered a historic 0-2 series defeat against Ireland, and later they went down against England in the second T20I after the first match was disrupted by the relentless rain. Speaking on the challenges, the batting coach underlined that the side is undergoing a period of transition.
"Our effort is to improve in all three areas, batting, bowling, and fielding. Since we won the last World Cup, our plan is that in the next two years, when the next World Cup comes, we have to reach the next level because all other teams will try to work to get better. In the last two years, we haven’t lost a single series. We won the T20 World Cup and the Asia Cup T20. Everyone said, 'Well done.' But after losing two matches, a lot of people have said we are losing now," Kotak said.
"That is the game. This is a transition (period); the captain has changed, Hardik is not available, and you try to introduce three or four young players; things can happen," the coach added.
