India and England women gear up for historic Test at Lord's

In a historic Test, India and England women are set to lock horns in a one-off women's Test at Lord's, beginning on Friday. This will be the first women's Test ever hosted at the Home of Cricket, making it a massive milestone for the women's game. Both India and England are coming off recent setbacks at the T20I World Cup 2026. England are looking to bounce back after going down against Australia in the Women's T20 World Cup final, where they crashed to a disappointing seven-wicket defeat. Whereas India are also desperate to make a fresh start following their group exit from the tournament.

Talking about England, their most recent Test appearance came during the 2025 Women's Ashes at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, while India have had slightly more recent experience in red-ball cricket after facing Australia in a day-night Test earlier this year in March. However, they suffered a huge 10-wicket loss inside three days. As far as India's and England's history in Test cricket goes, the two sides have faced each other in 15 Tests, with India holding a 3-1 advantage. Their eleven matches have ended in draws.

More positively, India carry an unbeaten record in England, where they have won twice and drawn seven of their nine Tests. For England, a lot will rely heavily on captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amy Jones, Heather Knight and Sophie Ecclestone. India, meanwhile, have a strong lineup, featuring the likes of captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Shafali and Jemimah Rodrigues. Notably, India and England faced each other in a one-off Test in December 2023, with India claiming a 347-run win in Mumbai.

England squad: Nat Sciver-Brunt (c), Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell, Maia Bouchier, Alice Capsey, Tilly Corteen-Coleman, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer, Amy Jones (wk), Heather Knight, Emma Lamb, Grace Potts, Ellie Threlkeld, Mady Villiers, Issy Wong

India squad: Hamanpreet Kaur (c), Smriti Mandhana (vc), Yastika Bhatia (wk), Shree Charani, Harleen Deol, Kranti Gaud, Richa Ghosh (wk), Sneh Rana, Pratika Rawal, Jemimah Rodrigues, Sayali Satghare, Deepti Sharma, Nandani Sharma, Renuka Singh, Shafali Verma
