San Francisco Unicorns have suffered a big blow in their Major League Cricket 2026 campaign after former Indian spinner R. Ashwin was ruled out for the remainder of the league due to a right knee injury. Ashwin's stint in the tournament was brief because he featured in only one match before the injury put an end to his campaign. Meanwhile, the franchise has confirmed the inclusion of Australian pacer Peter Siddle as a replacement for Ashwin.

“I'm disappointed to end the season early, but unfortunately, this injury means that's the right decision. I've truly loved my time with the San Francisco Unicorns and will be cheering the boys on for the rest of the tournament. Thank you to my team-mates, the coaching staff, everyone across the San Francisco Unicorns organisation, and all the Unicorns fans for your incredible support,” Ashwin said in a statement released by the franchise.

Ashwin's appearance in the tournament came on June 20 against the Texas Super Kings in Dallas, where he bowled two overs and conceded 24 runs while going wicketless. San Francisco Unicorns are currently dominating the points table with five wins and three losses in eight games.
