BCCI strongly denies retirement rumours around Rohit Sharma

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has categorically denied reports that the upcoming ODI match against England at Lord's will be Rohit Sharma's final appearance for the Indian team. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed the rumours, making it clear that there has been no discussion pertaining to Rohit's retirement. His remarks come amid the massive speculation that emerged during the second ODI in Cardiff, where Rohit managed 26 runs from 47 deliveries.

In the opening ODI, he had a modest score of 11 from 21 balls at Edgbaston. The speculation touched off the chatter about whether Rohit Sharma was nearing the end of his career. Notably, over the past year, Rohit has only featured for India in ODIs after retiring from T20Is and Tests. Following India's victorious 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, he retired from T20Is, and in May 2025, he also announced his retirement from Test cricket.

"There are a lot of speculations going on in the media about Rohit Sharma's future. I want to firmly assert that there has been no such discussion that Rohit will be playing his last match at Lord's on Sunday," Saikia told PTI.

"Rohit is a regular member of the Indian ODI team and he will continue to represent the country as long as he is in the scheme of things. In other words, Lord's ODI wont be his last match," he said.

Despite recent struggles with the bat, Rohit Sharma has been the backbone of India's batting in the ODIs, having accumulated 11,757 runs in the format while maintaining an impressive average of 48.6, making him one of the highest run-scorers in ODI history.
