“They can decide whatever they think is best”: Aiden Markram on the possibility of leading LSG at IPL 2027

There remain continued discussions over who will captain Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 following the departure of Rishabh Pant. South African star Aiden Markram remains the ultimate choice given his experience. However, Markram has chosen not to pay heed to speculations surrounding the vacant captaincy. Markram is currently captaining Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred and leads South Africa in the T20I format.
Markram said that his attention remains on his current commitments, also saying that the franchise has other experienced leaders to consider. Notably, LSG are searching for a new skipper after Rishabh Pant stepped down from the leadership role in May following a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign, in which the team finished at the bottom of the standings. Pant has now moved to Delhi Capitals.
"I've got no idea. They can decide whatever they think is best. There are some quality leaders in that group that we have there, so I'm not too fussed about it. Whoever gets it, I'm sure will take it on and do a good job, but the thoughts haven't been there just yet," Markram told Cricinfo.
In the Hundred, his team has played five matches so far, winning two and losing three. Talking about the tournament, Markram said he is enjoying the competition.
“It comes with its challenges, but it's been awesome. I've thoroughly enjoyed it. It obviously helps a lot to have guys like Jos [Buttler] around. He's helped me quite a bit." Markram said.
"It's obviously much quicker, and still the idea of 10 balls from one side [is a challenge]. You sometimes think you've snuck five in, and you remember there's still another five to the short side, or whatever it might be. But good fun, great comp, great standard as well, so I'm thoroughly enjoying it," he added.
