Anchor Sports AB takes over Jaffna Kings, Zaheer Khan joins as co-owner

The Jaffna Kings franchise in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) has been acquired by the Stockholm-based sports ownership group Anchor Sports AB. The franchise will now compete under the name Anchor Jaffna Kings. The acquisition is a major milestone for Anchor Sports AB, which is jointly owned by former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan and entrepreneur Nagendra Siddoutam.
Jaffna Kings have been the most successful side in the tournament’s history, having won four titles in five seasons. In the ongoing season as well, they are sitting on top of the points table. Meanwhile, Zaheer Khan expressed his excitement after becoming the co-owner.
“I’ve always admired the calibre, innovation and variety of bowling talent that comes out of Sri Lanka — it’s a country I’ve visited, competed in, and hold very fond memories of. To now be part of Sri Lankan cricket as an owner is something I’m genuinely thrilled about, and I can’t wait to get started with the Jaffna Anchors,” Zaheer Khan said in a statement.
Furthermore, the acquisition was welcomed by the founder and CEO of Innovative Production Group (IPG) Anil Mohan Sankhdhar.
"We welcome Anchor Sports on board and to the LPL family as they take over the iconic Jaffna franchise. We are confident that Anchors Sports will build on this remarkable legacy, bringing fresh vision and energy to the franchise,” Anil Mohan said.
