Adrian Birrell appointed head coach of Sharjah Warriorz
Sharjah Warriorz have appointed experienced South African coach Adrian Birrell as their head coach ahead of the upcoming fifth edition of the International League T20 (ILT20). Warriorz endured a difficult 2025-26 season, finishing at the bottom of the points table.
The side is still in the quest for their maiden ILT20 title and would hope for a turnaround under Birrell’s leadership. He carries great experience, having served as head coach of Ireland between 2002 and 2007. One of the most notable achievements of his tenure came at the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean, when Ireland progressed to the Super Eight stage.
After his time with Ireland, Birrell worked with South African cricket, serving as an assistant coach from 2013 to 2017. Moreover, his splendid success came with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in South Africa's SA20 competition where under his leadership, the franchise won three titles.
