Manav Suthar’s astonishing spell seals India’s 165-run victory over Sri Lanka

India secured a 165-run victory over Sri Lanka in Galle on Tuesday to take a 1-0 lead, with left-arm spinner Manav Suthar returning with a six-wicket haul. Overall, Suthar caps the match with a total of 10 wickets in the match after clinching four wickets in the first innings. India, after winning the toss and deciding to bat, put Sri Lankan bowlers under the pump from the start. With Sai Sudharsan unavailable, Devdutt Padikkal made the perfect use of the opportunity, slamming his maiden Test century before advancing to a superb 167.
KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel also made valuable contributions with 82 and 51 runs to help India reach 462. Sri Lanka in reply faced challenges despite a spirited century from Sonal Dinusha, who was Sri Lanka’s leading scorer with 100. However, the rest of the batting order struggled to maintain momentum as Sri Lanka were dismissed for 284. India then extended their lead during their second innings. Though they were bowled out for 193, they managed to set Sri Lanka a big target of 372.
Chasing the target, Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals. There was resistance from Sonal Dinusha and Dhananjaya de Silva, scoring 84 and 59, but it was not enough with Sri Lanka being folded for 206.
