Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has registered a remarkably notable milestone for his growing Test career, overtaking legendary MS Dhoni to become India's highest run-scorer as a designated wicketkeeper in away or neutral Test matches.

Pant reached the landmark during India's second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Monday. At the time of reporting, the left-handed batter had accumulated 2,501 runs at an average of 41.68, edging ahead of Dhoni's previous mark of 2,496 runs.

The achievement places Pant at the top of a glittering list that includes some of India's distinguished wicketkeeper-batters. Dhoni now sits second with 2,496 runs, while Farokh Engineer follows with 1,209. Syed Kirmani occupies fourth place with 1,109 runs, and Kiran More caps the top five with 901. The milestone came shortly after Pant endured a tough period during the opening day's play. He was retired hurt after being struck on his left arm by a short delivery from Sri Lankan fast bowler Lahiru Kumara.

The incident occurred during the third session on Sunday. Kumara delivered a bouncer that Pant attempted to pull behind square, but he failed to make contact with the ball, which instead struck him on the left arm. Pant was in discomfort following the blow and walked off the field. Despite the injury, Pant made a big comeback.
