Women's Asia Cup 2026: Smriti Mandhana scripts history with record-breaking century

Indian batter Smriti Mandhana, with her sensational display of batting in India’s Women’s Asia Cup clash against Hong Kong, China, on Thursday, broke a plethora of records. The talented opener blasted a phenomenal 124 from 64 balls, with her explosive knock featuring 14 boundaries and seven sixes, helping India post a gigantic total of 193/5 in 20 overs. The century was quite important because it took Mandhana past Mithali Raj as the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket across all formats.
Mandhana’s tally has now risen to 10,880 international runs, taking her ahead of former India captain Mithali, who ended her illustrious career with 10,868 runs. The century was the 18th international hundred of her career, taking her past former Australia captain Meg Lanning, who had previously held the record for the most centuries in women’s international cricket.
Mandhana’s 124 also was the highest individual score in Women's T20 Asia Cup history. With this she surpassed Chamari Athapaththu's unbeaten 119 against Malaysia back in 2024. Meanwhile, India bowled Hong Kong out for 56 in 16.2 overs to win the match by 137 runs.
