Shafali, Mandhana shine as India claim Women's Asia Cup 2026 crown
India women crushed Sri Lanka women by 72 runs in the Women's Asia Cup 2026 final on Sunday in Dubai to secure the title. India capped their unbeaten campaign in a dominant style, keeping Sri Lanka under the pump throughout the match. Having moved through the tournament without encountering any defeat, India saved their most commanding performance for the biggest final, with all players making their useful contributions.
The Indian side remained formidable in both their batting and bowling departments. Deciding to bat, they got a solid start through their opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma. Shafali impressed with 68 off 39 while Mandhana blasted 59 off 39. Both forged a partnership of 129 runs, setting a new record for the highest partnership for any wicket in Women's Asia Cup history. Their performance helped India post 183/5 in 20 overs.
Chasing 184, Sri Lankan batters struggled from the very first ball, as they could not put up a fight, collapsing under mounting pressure. Chamari Athapaththu was the top-scorer with 36 runs. Barring her no other batter could step up, as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 111 in 20 overs. Notably, India have now clinched a record eighth Women’s Asia Cup title.
