Abhishek Sharma steered India to a fabulous seven-wicket win over Afghanistan in the opening T20I on Sunday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Chasing 157, India made light work of the target as Abhishek Sharma fired an explosive knock of 82 off 32 to help India reach the target in 13.4 overs. From the outset, Abhishek attacked Afghanistan bowlers, blasting seven sixes and as many fours.

The victory gives India a 1-0 lead in the series, which is being used as an important part of their preparations for this month’s Asian Games.

Ishan Kishan also played a key role with his crucial 42-run knock. Earlier, deciding to bowl, Indian bowlers did not allow Afghanistan to post a big total, as they managed to post 156/8 in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh was the standout bowler for the hosts, finishing with impressive figures of 3/19.

For Afghanistan, however, Azmatullah Omarzai stepped up, playing a brilliant unbeaten knock of 64 from 44 deliveries to give the side something to defend. Mohammad Nabi also contributed 33 off 27.
