Indian batter Sanju Samson made a thumping return to form, blasting his way to a fabulous 57 off 22 and inspiring India to a scintillating seven-wicket win over India in the second T20I on Tuesday in Delhi. Samson was under huge pressure heading into the second game given his dismal outing in the opening T20I, where he was dismissed for only 10 runs. Samson was a key performer for India during the side’s T20I World Cup win earlier this year, capping the tournament with 321 runs. 

"I think it is the nature of the format and the nature of the way we have been playing for the last two-to-three years," Samson said at the press conference.

“We are actually the world champions now, and we have a format and an approach which has been very successful. We are just following it as we were following it the last two to three years. Just watching the ball and just trying to get maximum out in the Powerplay and sometimes it works out well, sometimes it doesn't work out well."

"After a few failures you definitely go through a lot. Being an Indian cricketer, it’s not easy to face failures, but that is where my experience comes in. I try to shut out the noise and try to be confident and try to come out and still keep scoring at a high strike rate."

Samson has also faced tough competition from the young talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for the spot at the top of the order. Notably, in the last two matches, Samson has opened the batting alongside Abhishek Sharma, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi being benched. Speaking on it, Samson asserted that there is no competition, as everyone is playing for the country. 

“I think they (Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma) are competitors for the outside world, but we are a team, and we are playing for our country. We want to win the game first, and then it comes down to the other individuals. So we try to be as positive as possible. Whoever is playing, we just want them to do well. We can’t sulk or be in a negative frame of mind, thinking, 'Oh, I did not get it; why was it given to him?' Those kinds of mindsets do not work here. So we try to be positive,” Samson said.
