BCCI assures Asia Cup trophies ‘will come one day’ at BCCI head office
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia has assured that both the men's and women's Asia Cup trophies will definitely find their way to the board's headquarters in Mumbai. Speaking after the BCCI's 95th Annual General Meeting, Saikia did not provide a definite timeline but expressed confidence that the silverware will be brought back at the BCCI office at Wankhede Stadium.
His comments come a few days after India women won the Women's Asia Cup in Dubai after beating Sri Lanka by 72 runs. This was Indian women’s eighth Asia Cup title win, but the Indian players did not collect the winners' trophy or medals from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and Pakistan's interior minister.
Notably, after winning the Asia Cup title in Dubai, the Indian team conducted an informal celebration, with players holding a separate presentation for their best fielder. Fielding coach Munish Bali presenting the medal. BCCI secretary Saikia and vice-president Rajiv Shukla presented the award to Nandani Sharma, who had taken two diving catches during the final.
"Asia Cup trophies… we hope it will come one day. I will not give you a timeline, but I can assure you that both the trophies will come up and land up in this BCCI head office at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai,” Saikia said while speaking to reporters.
The same situation unfolded during the 2025 Men's Asia Cup when Suryakumar Yadav-led team, India, did not participate in the formal trophy presentation after beating Pakistan in the final, with Naqvi involved in the ceremony. They too had refused to receive the trophy from Naqvi.
