Asian Games 2026: Sri Lanka secure bronze medal with convincing win over Bangladesh

Riding on Tharindu Ratnayake’s brilliance, Sri Lanka have claimed the bronze medal in the Asian Games, overcoming Bangladesh by 63 runs on Saturday. Deciding to bat, Sri Lanka got off to a rocky start, going down to 54/5. The early wickets had left their innings in danger of collapsing, but a massive recovery changed the course of the match.
Sahan Arachchige and Ashen Bandara gave some stability, contributing 33 and 18, respectively. However, the big turning point came when Tharindu Ratnayake played a key role. Ratnayake took some time to settle, but once he got into rhythm, he attacked Bangladesh’s bowling attack with sheer authority, helping the team surge from 54/5 to 165/9 in 20 overs.
Chasing the target, Bangladesh suffered early setbacks, with three of their top-order batters getting dismissed for ducks. The early collapse put Bangladesh under immense pressure as they struggled to rebuild their innings. Nadum Ahmed was Bangladesh's leading scorer with 26, but that was not enough, as Bangladesh were bowled out for 102 in 17.3 overs.
