“He deserves it”: Ex-Indian batter lauds selectors for recalling pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Having not played a game for India since November 2022, veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar made a surprise comeback to the team after being named in a 15-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand. Despite being on the sidelines, Kumar delivered sparkling performances, playing a key role in RCB’s back-to-back IPL title victories. Amid Kumar’s recall, former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik lauded selectors’ decision to bring back the promising pacer back in the side.
"Firstly, well done, selectors, to have the courage to pick someone. It's taken 4 years to pick him back in that Indian team. I am so, so happy, and it couldn't happen to a nicer man. I think he is a very different person to the Bhuvi that played then. I just genuinely wish he goes out there and enjoys the rest of the time that he plays international cricket. Karthik said in a video on social media.
Karthik highlighted the exceptional bowling qualities that Bhuvneshwar brings to the table.
“He deserves it. Purely on performance, he has been one of the best Indian pacers wherever he has played. Well done, Bhuvi. When I saw you in that Hong Kong 6s, I thought, okay, captain of the Indian team, fantastic. Now this news, even better. Well done for coming back into that Indian team. You will do a great job. I have no doubt,” Karthik said.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has featured in 87 T20Is for India, claiming 90 wickets. Meanwhile, the first T20I between India and New Zealand will be played on October 22 at Hagley Oval.
