IND vs WI, T20Is: Shreyas Iyer creates history with explosive T20I century, overtakes Virat Kohli

Indian captain Shreyas Iyer demonstrated his power-hitting skills in Lucknow on Tuesday, taking India to a splendid eight-wicket victory over West Indies in the first T20I. Chasing a target of 172, Iyer, coming in at No. 4, turned the match into a one-sided affair, blazing a thrilling 102 off 43 deliveries, launching 10 boundaries and six towering sixes during his knock.
Following his assault, India hunted the target in 14.4 overs, with Iyer single-handedly enduring India's win. The century was special because Iyer surpassed a record which was earlier held by Virat Kohli. Before Iyer, Kohli held the record for the highest score by an Indian captain while chasing in a T20I.
He plundered an unbeaten 94 off 50 balls against West Indies in Hyderabad in 2019. Iyer, on the other hand, has now gone past Kohli with an unbeaten 102 that carried a staggering strike rate of almost 237. Iyer also became the first Indian captain to register a century in a T20I while pursuing a target.
