Ex-Indian cricketer’s big remarks on Mohammed Shami's absence from team India

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s return to the Indian team has been one of the most talked-about decisions of the BCCI selection committee after the departure of Ajit Agarkar, who until recently served as chairman of selectors, but it has also touched off a wave of reaction surrounding the absence of Mohammed Shami from the team.
In light of Shami’s experience and impressive record in international cricket, there has been optimism that the veteran pacer will get another opportunity to represent India. However, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has suggested that Shami’s chances of returning to the national side are more complicated.
"If Bhuvi has come, will Shami also come? Many people are saying that Bhuvi came as soon as Ajit left, and that Shami would also come. I think we will be fooling ourselves if we feel that one guy was stopping everyone, that only he was resisting and everyone else wanted to pick them," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Chopra stated that the resistance to Shami’s comeback was not only limited to former chief selector Ajit Agarkar but also to a large section of the selection panel.
"It cannot be like that. It is not possible because it is a five-member selection committee, and I can actually vouch that I have spoken to the selectors, and all of them are on the same page. So, it's not like the chairman randomly said it and everyone was agreeing," he added.
Meanwhile, despite being out of the team, Shami has been consistently playing domestic cricket and IPL. His last appearance for India came at the Champions Trophy 2025.
