Former India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has announced that he will take legal action against the organisers of the World T20 Continent Cup over the alleged unauthorised use of his name. On Tuesday, Dhawan took to social media to clarify that he had not given permission to participate in the tournament and urged fans and media organisations not to believe or circulate misleading information.

Reports had suggested that Dhawan would represent Asia Warriors in the competition. The team was reportedly set to feature several players from Pakistan as well. However, the former Indian opener has firmly denied any association with the tournament and distanced himself from the event.

Dhawan wrote:

"I have come across my name as a participant in the World T20 Continent Cup. My name has been used by the organisers without my knowledge or permission, and my team will be taking the appropriate legal steps to address this. I request the media and my fans to not report or rely on any unauthorised announcements. Thank you for your continued love and support."

Through his statement, Dhawan made it clear that he had not authorised any announcement suggesting that he would participate in the competition. He also urged the media and his fans to rely on official information rather than unverified reports.

Dhawan's name had reportedly been linked with Asia Warriors, a team expected to feature in the World T20 Continent Cup. The reports generated attention because the team was said to include several Pakistani players. However, Dhawan's public clarification has rejected the reported association. His statement also raises questions about how his name came to be linked with the tournament without his alleged consent.

Dhawan has previously expressed strong views against terrorism and spoken publicly during the tensions between India and Pakistan in 2025, following the Pahalgam terror attack and during Operation Sindoor. At the time, he shared messages on social media supporting India's stance against terrorism.

In one post, Dhawan wrote, "India takes a stand against terrorism. Bharat Mata Ki Jai."

In another post, he criticised Pakistan following the developments surrounding the conflict and ceasefire. His earlier statements have also attracted attention in the context of the recent reports linking him with a tournament reportedly involving players from Pakistan. However, his current objection is specifically that his name was used without his knowledge or permission.
