R Ashwin underlines Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s consistency behind India T20I recall

Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has lauded the return of Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar to India’s T20I squad, saying that Kumar’s sustained consistency and dedication towards the game has earned him a recall after four years. The veteran pacer was brought into the squad after performing vigorously for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year.
"I have a feeling that Bhuvneshwar Kumar hasn't even thought about a comeback. I think this will be his mantra for success. And when I'm watching him from afar, I have also experienced this myself, he has gone on his own journey," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
"He has focused on doing well, bowling well with the new ball and performing for RCB. Whatever he could do, he did it. His recall is the reward for his success. He never chased that reward; he simply did his job and success followed," he said.
Bhuvneshwar last played for India back in November 2022 in a T20I match against New Zealand. Since then he has been on the sidelines, but his firmness and a series of promising performances have earned him a place in India’s T20I setup. He played a vital role in RCB’s back-to-back title wins, taking 28 wickets across 16 matches in the last season of the tournament.
Meanwhile, India’s upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand is scheduled to begin on October 22 with the first match in Christchurch. Overall, Bhuvneshwar has represented India in 21 Tests, 121 ODIs and 87 T20Is.
