Veteran Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has opened up about a frightening incident from the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL), when an intoxicated Australian cricketer hung him over a hotel balcony on the 15th or 16th floor. Chahal, who began his IPL career with Mumbai Indians in 2013 before becoming a key player for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, first spoke about the incident in 2022. However, he has now provided more details about what happened during a party hosted by RCB in Bengaluru.

Speaking on former India opener Aakash Chopra's podcast, Chahal clarified that the Australian cricketer involved was neither Andrew Symonds nor James Franklin, as some reports had suggested. "There was a party in Bengaluru hosted by RCB. I was playing for MI at the time. I also went there and saw a guy who was heavily drunk. He was well-built and very strong. He was from Australia, but he was neither Symonds nor Franklin, rather some other guy," Chahal said.

He explained that the cricketer lifted him and held him over the balcony, leaving him terrified. "At first, I thought he was joking, but then he hung me over the balcony, and I was just holding on to his neck," he added. Chahal recalled that everyone in the room was shocked before stepping in to rescue him. "I was terrified. He was heavily drunk, and everyone in the room was stunned. Suddenly, everyone intervened and pulled me back up. That guy was laughing, but for me, it felt like a second birth," Chahal said. The leg-spinner also admitted that he was young at the time and did not know how to file a formal complaint. He eventually decided to move on from the incident and concentrate on his cricket career.

Chahal has been out of favour with the Indian selectors for some time. His last appearance for India came in a T20I against the West Indies in 2023. In the IPL, he currently represents Punjab Kings. During the 2026 season, he played 14 matches and took 12 wickets. Although Chahal has retired from first-class cricket, he remains hopeful of returning to India's ODI and T20I teams. The experienced spinner will be looking to continue performing well and make a strong case for an international comeback.
