NZ vs IND, T20Is: New Zealand handed double injury blow, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry out of final two matches

New Zealand have been rocked big times following injuries to their frontline pacers Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry ahead of the final two matches of the ongoing five-match T20I series against India. Following the injuries suffered in the second T20I in Christchurch, both pacers have been ruled out for the remainder of the series. Ferguson picked up a calf injury during the match and is likely to be out of action for at least a week. Henry, meanwhile, suffered a quadriceps injury in the second match only, needing a time of almost two weeks to regain full fitness.

“We’re gutted for Lockie and Matt. Injuries are part and parcel of international cricket but it doesn’t make it any easier when you have to miss games,” New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said.

“Fortunately for Matt he was already going to sit out on the rest of the T20Is with an eye to his big summer schedule, and we’re hopeful he’ll still play a key role in the ODIs. I know Lockie was fizzing to play in front of a sell-out home crowd at Eden Park tomorrow, but he’s determined to be back for the ODIs.”

In the wake of it, New Zealand have brought Matt Fisher into the squad as cover for the final two matches against India.
