“They might not get that opportunity”: Sairaj Bahutule on Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy’s limited opportunities

India's spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule has said that experienced spin duo, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy, are well aware that securing a place in the playing XI may not be easy during the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand. Both bowlers are part of the squad but remain on the sidelines waiting for an opportunity, with the Indian team management sticking with the preferred combination. India's XI remained unchanged even during the fourth T20I, where the bowlers struggled to control New Zealand batters. The Black Caps piled up a 259/7, handing India a heavy 87-run defeat.
"They are well prepared to play. But the combination team, whatever they need, it's very important to understand that they might not get that opportunity. They are very much aware of it. At the same time they keep working behind the doors,” Bahutule said at the post-match press conference.
"Whenever they are needed, in fact, they will be ready for it. I think it's a question of giving them the opportunity. Hopefully, in the next game and the coming one-dayers, they will get the opportunity," he said.
Despite the disappointing performance, India have already taken an unassailable 3-1 lead after clinching victories in the first three games. Meanwhile, Bahutule reflected on India’s defeat in the fourth match.
"Eden Park, obviously, is challenging ground in terms of dimensions. But I think we were very clear as to what we wanted to do. We were clear in terms of our strengths. And we wanted to execute our skills to whatever we could really work towards. But it didn't happen,” he said.
