“Hopefully we will see him back in the side”: Shubman Gill on Hardik Pandya

Indian captain Shubman Gill has lauded all-rounder Hardik Pandya, highlighting the immense value he brings to the team. Gill asserted that Pandya has the combination of abilities, which has become very much instrumental in strengthening the side. Pandya’s ability to contribute with both bat and ball always gives the Indian side an edge, which, according to Gill, makes him a perfect weapon to use in any situation. However, Pandya’s recurring fitness issues remain a major concern as India turn their focus towards next year's ODI World Cup. Pandya has endured a frustrating time with injuries since IPL 2026, with his comeback being repeatedly interrupted by fresh blows.

"Firstly, I think he is a great player. The qualities he brings to the team – not many players in the world possess those qualities. Having a fast-bowling all-rounder who can bowl in every facet of the game, with the new ball, in the middle overs and death overs, along with the kind of batting he has,” Gill said at the press conference.

Pandya was recently included in India's A squad for the 50-over series against Australia A; however, a shin injury disrupted those plans and put him on the sidelines. That issue also ruled him out of India's tour of New Zealand.

"It has been very unfortunate that he hasn't been able to play since the IPL. We have had multiple conversations. He was supposed to play the India matches, but just before that he had some niggle issues. Hopefully, he will be fit. He will play some domestic cricket. And hopefully we will see him back on the side,” Gill said.
