New Zealand stalwarts Kane Williamson and Kyle Jamieson will be missing the T20I series against Bangladesh which is scheduled to get underway from Wednesday (December 27). New Zealand Cricket have decided to withdraw both the players from the T20I series. This is a precautionary decision having been taken by New Zealand keeping in mind the Test series against South Africa and Australia. Mitchell Santner is slated to lead the team after the withdrawal of Williamson who had earlier been named the captain of the side. The Test series against South Africa and Australia will be of the high intensity and Jamieson has been having hamstring problem due to which he has been taken out of the T20I series.

“We want both Kane and Kyle to be in the best possible place leading into the next block of Test cricket against South Africa and Australia. Based on discussions with the medical staff and the players, it was decided a period of rehabilitation and conditioning was the best option for both of them,” New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said.

Rachin Ravindra and Jacob Duffy have been roped in as the replacement for Kane Williamson and Kyle Jamieson.

“Jacob is an experienced T20 cricketer, and always brings a lot when he is part of the BlackCaps environment. He’s worked very hard on his white-ball skills in recent seasons. Rachin adds to any environment he’s a part of, and has a great desire to learn and develop his game across all three formats.”
