“It’s about showing faith and trust in everyone”: Rohit Sharma backs Prasidh Krishna

Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna was met with a challenging outing in India’s opening Test match against South Africa after struggling to find his rhythm while returning with only one wicket. Prasidh had been included into India’s playing XI for the first Test considering his acumen in delivering bouncers and great seam. His inability to make a significant impact raised concerns and remains unlikely to feature in the second Test match, scheduled to get underway from January 3rd in Cape Town.
Ahead of the first game, Rohit Sharma addressed the press conference during which he endorsed Prasidh Krishna by pointing out that, there is always a nervousness when you are playing your first game. Apart from Krishna, Shardul Thakur also remained in tantrums, not getting enough momentum.
"Having said that, I still feel that, sometimes we've got a little bit of inexperience in our bowling, and sometimes when you have that, you've got to show some faith in them, show trust in them, and that can happen to any team. Like I said in the last post-match press-conference about Prasidh playing his first game, we all get nervous when you are playing your first game. It's understandable, but I thought, and I'll still back that thought of mine, that he's got good ability to succeed at this level and especially in this format. So it's just about showing faith and trust in everyone and getting the job done from them,” said Rohit Sharma while addressing the press conference.
Rohit Sharma was asked about the conditions in Cape Town in contrast with Centurion, but Rohit stated that conditions were similar to what it was in Centurion. As Rohit Sharma said, overhead conditions will be instrumental in the game.
“The pitch looks similar to what it was in Centurion. Maybe not so much grass but there is enough covering of grass. Overhead conditions will matter I think, it’s quite hot here. Centurion was much cooler. When we played here last time in 2018 and 2021, in 2021 I wasn’t there but the guys were telling me that it was similar in terms of overhead conditions. We know exactly what is required when conditions are like that. Based on how the pitch is, how the conditions are, we have to respond to that.”
