In a pulsating encounter in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women’s nervy performance was on full display as they edged past Mumbai Indians by a margin of five runs in the eliminator match on Friday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. This enthralling victory hurled them into the final, where they will now face Delhi Capitals to contend for the coveted WPL title.

Batting first, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women got off to a drowsy start, with their top-order batters Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine departing for (10) and (10) respectively. Meanwhile, all-rounder Elyyse Perry (66) rescued the team, exhibiting her class with the bat and guiding the team to a fighting total of 135.

Chasing the target, Mumbai Indians began their chase on a rather good note with Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews scoring (19) and (15) respectively. RCB spinners’ unerring bowling kept Mumbai Indians under pressure. Firebrand Shreyanka Patil kept the pressure on Mumbai Indians’ batters, not allowing them to steal runs.

For Mumbai Indians, Harmanpreet Kaur and Amelia Kerr forged a 52-run stand, giving the team some hope. However, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women's bowlers fought back with tenacity, picking up crucial wickets at regular intervals to keep the pressure on the opposition. Mumbai Indians remained 5 runs shy of target, making the room for RCB to qualify for final.

With this hard-fought victory, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women have booked their place in the final of WPL 2024, where they will lock horns with Delhi Capitals in what promises to be an electrifying showdown. The final is scheduled to be held on Sunday at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
