“Jaiswal shouldn’t have gone so close to him”: Sitanshu Kotak on Jaiswal’s confrontation with Sri Lankan bowler

Tempers boiled over after Asitha Fernando removed Yashasvi Jaiswal with the final delivery of the 17th over. Soon after the dismissal, a heated confrontation between the Indian batter and Sri Lankan fast bowler broke out. During the over, Jaiswal had plenty of opportunities to attack, with the left-hander finding the boundary three times.
Fernando, however, had the last laugh, with Jaiswal attempting to work the final ball away, only to get an inside edge that sent the ball crashing into his stumps. He was clearly frustrated by the manner of his dismissal.
After the dismissal, Jaiswal started to walk back toward the dressing room, but the situation changed quickly when Fernando's animated reaction caught Jaiswal’s attention. Jaiswal suddenly turned back and headed back toward the bowler. The confrontation intensified within seconds, with Jaiswal moving directly toward Fernando and making visible contact. However, Sri Lankan players immediately intervened, separating both players before the confrontation took a different turn.
"I think the bowler commented something, and it was in the heat of the moment. Obviously Jaiswal shouldn’t have gone so close to him, but it happened in the heat of the moment," Sitanshu Kotak said at the press conference.
Talking about the match, India are in great position, having already piled up 300/5 on day one, with Devdutt Padikkal slamming 117 and Shubman Gill 50 runs.
