Sri Lanka Women secure T20 World Cup spot, beat UAE Women

Sri Lanka Women outplayed United Arab Emirates by (15) runs in the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier on Sunday at Sheikh Zayed Stadium to obtain their spot in the upcoming Women’s T20I World 2024 to be held in Bangladesh.

In their pursuit of (149), UAE Women led a powerful chase, with opener Esha Oza smashing (66). Still, UAE Women fell short of the target after their middle-order batters failed to challenge Sri Lanka. UAE could only muster 134/7 in (20) overs. 

Earlier, put into bat, Sri Lanka Women got off to a rollicking start, with their openers Vishmi Gunaratne and skipper Chamari Athapaththu hitting (45) and (21) respectively. Harshitha Samarawickrama contributed with (24) runs. Overall, all players chipped in with pivotal scores, taking the side to 149/6 in (20) overs. Sri Lanka will now meet Scotland in the final on Tuesday.
