Rashid returns as Afghanistan name squad for South Africa ODIs

Afghanistan have named a 17-member squad for their upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa in UAE, with legspinner Rashid Khan making his comeback to the ODIs for the first time since the ODI World Cup last year. Rashid’s comeback is a massive boost for Afghanistan as they will continue to be without Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who is still recovering from an injury.
Moreover, Noor Ahmad has not been included in the squad. Recently, Rashid was also left out of Afghanistan’s One-Off Test match against New Zealand. Hashmatullah Sahidi will lead the squad that also features experienced Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib.
"Mujeeb Ur Rahman continues to recover from his injury and is unavailable for selection. Ibrahim Zadran will also miss the South Africa ODIs for twisting his ankle on the edge of the New Zealand Test. However, we have included some of the top-performing youngsters in Abdul Malik and Darwish Rasooli. Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar is also a talented cricketer and has demonstrated excellent skills recently and will cover for Mujeeb in the series,” said ACB chief selector Ahmad Shah Sulimankhil.
Afghanistan squad: Hashmatullah Shahidi (c), Rahmat Shah, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ikram Alikhil, Abdul Malik, Riaz Hassan, Darwish Rasooli, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Nangeyalia Kharote, AM Ghazanfar, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Bilal Sami, Naveed Zadran, Fareed Ahmad
