Young Rachin Ravindra’s 70-run knock went in vain as MI New York completed a memorable 5-run win over Washington Freedom to win their maiden MLC title on Monday at Grand Prairie Stadium. It’s been one of the most remarkable campaigns for MI New York, who, after losing six of their first seven games, staged a fascinating comeback to win their maiden MLC title.
Put into bat, MI New York posted a challenging total of 180/7 in 20 overs, with Quinton de Kock playing a robust 77-run innings. Monank Patel and Kunwarjeet Singh also stepped up, contributing 28 and 22*, respectively. Meanwhile, chasing the total, Washington Freedom suffered an early setback, losing Mitchell Owen (0). However, Rachin Ravindra kept the hopes alive, steadying the innings with an 84-run partnership with Jack Edwards. Rachin blasted 70 runs peppered with eight boundaries and two sixes. Edwards, on the other hand, scored 33 runs, featuring two fours and as many sixes.
Following the dismissal of their partnership, Freedom lost the momentum. Nonetheless, Glenn Phillips fought back with a fluent 46-run knock to keep Washington in the race. But the challenge came in the final over when Rushil Ugarkar defended 12 off the final over. Ugarkar gave away only six runs, sealing an audacious win for New York.
