AUS vs IND: Fifth T20I abandoned, India walk away 2-1 winners
The fifth and final T20I between India and Australia at The Gabba on Saturday was abandoned after just 4.5 overs of play, handing India the series victory by 2-1. India, having already secured a 2-1 lead heading into the final game, were asked to bat. They got off to a promising start, cruising to 52/0 in 4.5 overs.
Opener Shubman Gill was unbeaten on 29 from 16 balls, and big hitter Abhishek Sharma on 23 from 13. But just then, heavy rain forced play to be stopped, and ultimately the match could not be resumed. There was a long wait, but persistent rain did not allow the proceedings to be resumed.
Interestingly, the series began with a washout in Canberra (first T20I), with rain having the upper hand from the start. Australia struck back to win the second game, but India stormed back to take the third and fourth, taking an unassailable 2-1 lead.
