NZ vs WI, 2nd ODI: All you need to know, playing XI, head-to head
New Zealand and the West Indies are set to lock horns in the second ODI of their three-match series on Wednesday at McLean Park. The Black Caps are heading into this match with a 1–0 lead after a tight seven-run victory in the series opener in Christchurch. But the West Indies will be desperate to bounce back and level the contest.
In Christchurch, New Zealand set a competitive target of 269/7 on the back of a composed century (119) from Daryl Mitchell, who has now been ruled out of the series. West Indies, meanwhile, responded strongly but fell short, posting 262/6. Just ahead of the second ODI, New Zealand received a big blow in the form of Daryl Mitchell, who has been ruled out of the remaining ODIs due to a groin injury.
In his absence, New Zealand have brought in Henry Nicholls as cover. Nicholls, who has been strong in domestic cricket, faces a big opportunity and big pressure to step into the void left by Mitchell.
For the West Indies, the stakes remain high as they look to level the series, setting up the decider. For West Indies, Shai Hope, Keacy Carty and Sherfane Rutherford will be expected to provide the stability for the side.
