Usman Khawaja out of second Ashes Test

Australia's veteran opener Usman Khawaja has been ruled out of the second Ashes Test with a back injury. Two days out from the second game at The Gabba, Khawaja has failed to recover from back spasms he suffered during the opening match in Perth. This setback is a worrying development for highly experienced Khawaja, whose form has already been under scrutiny.
Khawaja made a brief attempt to prove his fitness on Tuesday, batting for around 30 minutes in the nets. However, the session was not enough to convince the medical staff.
Australia heading into the day-night Ashes Test in Brisbane will be forced to reshape their top order. Khawaja's absence, meanwhile, creates an opportunity for Travis Head to open the innings in the second Test. Head, who opened the innings for Australia during the second innings of the first Test after Khawaja was unable to bat, had produced one of the greatest knocks in Ashes history.
He had fired a blistering 123 off 83 balls to help Australia end the match inside two days. Notably, the latest development could put Khawaja's future in international cricket in doubt.
