NZ suffer injury blow, Tom Blundell ruled out of second Test against West Indies

New Zealand's challenge in the ongoing Test series against West Indies has deepened, with wicket-keeper batsman Tom Blundell being ruled out of the second Test. New Zealand Cricket confirmed the development after scans confirmed a hamstring tear. Blundell injured his right hamstring while batting on the opening day of the first Test at Hagley Oval, Christchurch.
He was visibly uncomfortable between the wickets and had to sit out from Day 2. Following Blundell's absence, captain Tom Latham took over the responsibility behind the wickets. With Blundell unavailable, New Zealand have called Mitch Hay, who has represented the side in white-ball formats but is yet to make his Test debut. The second Test match is in Wellington, scheduled from December 10.
Blundell’s exit piles onto what has already been a medical emergency for New Zealand, with fast bowler Matt Henry and seamer-allrounder Nathan Smith requiring medical attention during day 4 of the ongoing first Test.
