England Test captain Ben Stokes has sparked huge concern among fans after sharing a disturbing image on social media while continuing his recovery in England. Stokes took to his Instagram handle to post a photo that immediately alarmed followers.

In the image, the all-rounder appeared visibly bruised and battered. His face showed heavy swelling, a severely black eye on the right side, and cuts along his cheek and below his lip.

"You should see the state of the cricket ball," Stokes captioned the photo with a laughing emoji.

Stokes, meanwhile, is recovering from a groin injury sustained during the fifth Test of the Ashes series. Talking about the Ashes, England's tour had ended in a massive disappointment, conceding a 4-1 series defeat.  England were only able to claim victory in the fourth Test in Melbourne, beating Australia by four wickets.  Apart from their win in the fourth match, England were totally outplayed by Australia, failing to match the intensity demonstrated by the Australian players on their home turf.
