South Africa seal berth in the semi-finals of the 2026 T20 World Cup

South Africa have secured their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 T20 World Cup, becoming the second team after England to reach the last four. Their qualification was confirmed on Thursday night when India defeated Zimbabwe in Chennai, eliminating Zimbabwe from contention. Earlier on Thursday, South Africa strengthened their position by defeating West Indies, claiming four points in Group 1 of the Super Eight stage.
South Africa will complete their Super Eight campaign against Zimbabwe in Delhi on Sunday afternoon. However, all eyes will be on a crucial clash between India and West Indies in Kolkata. Both sides sit on two points, and their match will be crucial in determining the second semi-finalist from Group 1.
West Indies currently hold a significant advantage in net run rate, boasting 1.791 compared to India’s -0.100. However, that advantage will only come into play if rain intervenes at Eden Gardens and forces a washout. Otherwise, the winner on the day will advance.
In Group 2, England have sealed their semi-final berth with commanding victories over Pakistan and Sri Lanka, moving to the top of the table with four points. New Zealand team are currently second after defeating Sri Lanka. They will now face England on Friday, where a win would confirm their qualification.
