In a high-pressure situation, India's ever-composed batter Sanju Samson produced an innings that will be remembered in Indian cricket for years to come. With a semi-final berth on the line, Samson delivered a performance of rare composure and audacity to steer India past West Indies and into the semi-finals of the Men's T20 World Cup.

In a winner-takes-all group clash on Sunday, India found themselves in choppy waters during the chase, with wickets falling at regular intervals. However, Samson stood firm, finishing on a majestic 97 not out to guide India home with a five-wicket win. Lauding Samson's match-defining knock, former India captain Sourav Ganguly backed him to regularly feature in India's white-ball setup.

"Outstanding, he's a very good player. He should consistently play for India in white-ball cricket – 100 per cent," Ganguly told reporters.

"It was a virtual quarterfinal, and to be 97 not out shows his quality. He's that sort of a player... when he gets in, he will hurt the opposition," Ganguly said.

Early on, Sanju focused on rebuilding, rotating the strike and punishing the loose delivery. Meanwhile, as the overs ticked by, Samson shifted gears seamlessly, playing a noteworthy knock. Notably, this was his first half-century in 13 innings. Samson, who had been under pressure, facing scrutiny over consistency, successfully silenced his critics with this transformative innings.
