England's white-ball captain Harry Brook and all-rounder Jacob Bethell have been warned by the cricket regulator following their involvement in a controversial off-field incident in Wellington during England’s 2025 tour of New Zealand. The decision brings closure to a months-long investigation into events that raised questions about player conduct and team culture.

The incident took place on the night of October 31, 2025, on the eve of an ODI against New Zealand. Brook was involved in an altercation with a nightclub bouncer after being denied entry to a venue. According to reports, Bethell and fellow England bowler Josh Tongue were also present that night. Initially, Brook claimed he had been alone during the episode. However, he later admitted that he had lied to shield his teammates from scrutiny.

“As a consequence of those investigations, the Regulator has issued a caution notice to Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell in relation to their conduct during that night,” a Cricket Regulator statement read.

No further action has been taken against Josh Tongue, with the regulator maintaining that additional sanctions were unnecessary in his case.

“No further action is to be taken by the Regulator in relation to Josh Tongue,” the statement stated.
