Brazil's Laura Cardoso creates history with nine wickets in T20 international

Brazil’s young allrounder Laura Cardoso created history by becoming the first player—male or female—to claim a nine-wicket haul in a T20I innings, delivering one of the most extraordinary individual performances. She accomplished the landmark record during the ongoing Kalahari Women’s T20I Tournament in Botswana, where Brazil faced Lesotho in a one-sided encounter.
Cardoso delivered a spell for the ages, finishing with astonishing figures of 9 wickets for 4 runs in 3 overs, the best ever recorded in T20 international cricket. Her performance shattered previous records across both men’s and women’s formats. The earlier overall T20I best was eight wickets in an innings, making Cardoso’s nine-wicket haul a completely unprecedented milestone.
Cardoso’s devastating spell began early in the Lesotho innings. After a quiet start, she exploded into action with a hat-trick in her first over, putting Brazil in complete control. Her spell played a massive role as Lesotho were bowled out for 13 in 6.2 overs in the chase of 203, handing Brazil a massive 189-run victory, which was one of the largest margins in women’s T20I cricket. She also broke the previous record held by Bhutan's Sonam Yeshey, who claimed eight wickets for seven runs against Myanmar in a men's T20 international in 2025.
