IPL 2026: Struggling Chennai seek revival as Delhi eye consistency

In match 18 of the 2026 Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings will lock horns with Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday. Both sides are moving in very different directions early in the tournament. For years, Chepauk has been the fortress for Chennai. However, that aura has faded alarmingly, with CSK now entering this match on the back of six consecutive defeats at home, including three losses in the ongoing season that have left them languishing at the bottom of the table. A major concern for CSK has been the lack of stability at the top.
The opening duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson have failed miserably. With minimal opening stands and Samson struggling for form, Chennai have repeatedly found themselves on the back foot early in innings. There have been positive signs from younger players like Ayush Mhatre and Sarfaraz Khan, but the team’s revival depends on senior batters rediscovering consistency. A potential boost could come from the return of Dewald Brevis, who is expected to be available after missing the opening games due to injury. Their bowling has also compounded the problem. Their bowlers have lacked control, failing to defend strong scores. They struggled against RCB in a high-scoring defeat.
On the other hand, Delhi began their campaign nicely with two consecutive wins and nearly secured a third before narrowly going down against Gujarat Titans. Their opening pair of Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul showed encouraging signs in the last game, particularly Rahul, who regained his rhythm after a quiet start to the season. He scored 92 runs against GT. Their bowling unit has also been impressive, with Mukesh Kumar, Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan delivering powerful performances.
