A new star announced himself in spectacular fashion in the IPL on Thursday at Eden Garden, as Mukul Choudhary knocked off a match-winning performance that stunned everyone. The young right-hander from a small village in Rajasthan played a fearless innings to guide the Lucknow Super Giants to a magnificent last-ball victory over Kolkata Knight Riders. After being bought for a hefty ₹2.6 crore at the IPL 2026 auction, Choudhary justified every bit of that investment with an unbeaten 54 off 27 balls. Chasing 182, LSG’s innings collapsed early, with KKR bowlers striking at regular intervals.

Early breakthroughs from KKR bowlers left LSG wobbling. However, Mukul, walking in with LSG in deep trouble, showed nerves launching a fiery counterattack and dismantling KKR’s bowling with remarkable confidence. He blazed seven sixes and two fours, maintaining a strike rate of 200 to guide the team to an unlikely win.

One moment in his innings stood out. Facing a pinpoint yorker from KKR pacer Vaibhav Arora, Choudhary settled himself brilliantly, moving slightly towards the leg side to launch the ball high over long on for a six. The audacious shot resembled the iconic “helicopter shot", a technique made famous by MS Dhoni. The shot drew admiration from former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis, who was left impressed and lauded the remarkable shot by Mukul.

“MS Dhoni, eat your heart out. The helicopter shot is back,” said Faf on air.

Meanwhile, with their latest win, LSG are sitting on the fifth position in the points table with two wins in three games. This was their second straight win after stumbling in the opening match of the tournament. Their next match is against Gujarat Titans on Sunday in Lucknow.
