Kolkata Knight Riders' captain Ajinkya Rahane has been penalised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a slow over-rate during the team's Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday at MA Chidambaram Stadium. The fine, amounting to ₹12 lakh, was imposed following KKR’s heavy loss against CSK. The loss was also KKR's fourth consecutive defeat of the season.

"Kolkata Knight Riders Captain Ajinkya Rahane has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 22 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai," the IPL said in a release.

"As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Rahane was fined INR 12 lakh," the release added.

Looking at the match, KKR crashed to a 32-run defeat after failing to chase a total of 192, with Ramandeep Singh and Rovman Powell being the only top scorers, scoring 35 and 31* respectively. For CSK, Sanju Samson and Dewald Brevis slammed 48 and 41 to power the side to a big total. In their bowling unit, Noor Ahmad and Anshul Kamboj took three and two wickets, respectively.
