Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has advised experts to temper expectations surrounding teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, saying the youngster should be given the freedom and time to grow into international cricket without undue pressure. Sooryavanshi, who is only 15 years old, recently earned a maiden India call-up for the upcoming T20I tours of Ireland and England. He has also been named in the squad for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan.

“I think we should let him be; he is just 15-year-old and I don’t think he will bother too much about pressure and that is what we get to see him in the IPL. Obviously, playing for India is different and he will be touring where the wickets will be a little different," Ganguly said while speaking to PTI.

With his inclusion in the Indian squad, Sooryavanshi became the youngest player ever chosen for the Indian national team. Ganguly asserted that the transition from domestic and franchise cricket to the international stage is never straightforward.

“… so just let him be, don’t expect the world from him straightaway. Just allow him to settle down because you know he has got a lot of talent like many others in India," Ganguly added.

Recently, Sooryavanshi had a productive IPL 2026, finishing the season as the tournament's highest run-getter with 776 runs in 16 innings. His tally of runs also included a century and five half-centuries. During India's upcoming tour of Ireland, if Sooryavanshi makes his India debut, then he will overtake Sachin Tendulkar to become the youngest player to represent India.
